Flea Market In Lucasville Ohio
Guillermo Lastra, a life dedicated to glass
Willy is a blower that has dedicated his life to glass, defined as a "labor of art."
lives in Berazategui, which is the National Capital Glass and is in the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
What was your first contact with the glass?
The first time I was working glass in the Cooperative
"Progress" at age 14. I felt they were all mad at work with fire and hot glass until I became a madman also like them. From then until today continue to work blowing glass for more than 36 years. So for me, "El Progreso" is my second home and my first job and I hope it will last. Inside the factory, I work in fine glass, where I specialize in making unique models.
Cooperative "Progress" is a blown glass factory since 1947 devoted to the craftsmanship of glass products and preserves the ancient techniques of hand-shaped glass. It made fine glassware products, glassware for food, lighting products, gifts, perfume with the best raw materials, etc. Without doubt, has an excellent glass.
are not enough hours spent working with glass at the factory, how did the decision to set up a workshop in your home?
Looking ahead, I have little to retire and do not know if I can continue taking glass and make my pieces in the cooperative, as usual. So, I want the transition is progressive and not lose contact with the glass. I want to keep playing in my workshop to develop my own pieces.
In his studio you can see the speaker's game, weapon lamps with colored bottles and glass shades with lots of color and unconventional ways. Is the space where the monotony out of form and the transparency that is at work.
Who is your reference in glass blowing?
Rosendo Tellechea, Maestro Argentine Blower currently residing in Spain. He gave me all the experience in the construction of the oven, that's where I learned that Master Glazier must not only develop their parts but to build your own oven and learn their secrets, their times ... Then you really are a master when it combines both. My greatest gratitude to him gave him. Thanks
Rosendo Tellechea could mount the oven that I have in my home studio where I am currently teaching. These years, I want to dedicate to teaching, hoping to find in the way people passionate about this unique material has given me so much. Meanwhile I keep playing and having fun with what I do.
